Mandalay Bronze Buddha
Style
Mandalay style, reflecting the distinctive aesthetic developed in the royal workshops of the Konbaung dynasty. The Buddha is seated in vajrāsana on a compact, waisted throne, with softly rounded, naturalistic proportions and a serene, downcast gaze. The saṅghāṭi falls in continuous, relaxed folds over the left shoulder and drapes naturally over the throne edge.
Period
19th Century, Burma (Myanmar), Konbaung Dynasty. King Mindon established Mandalay as the royal capital in 1857. The court workshops of the final Burmese kingdom refined an aesthetic that combined traditional Buddhist iconography with increasingly naturalistic modelling. The compact throne proportions and relaxed treatment of the robe are consistent with royal-period Mandalay production.
Material
Bronze, finely cast, with a warm, naturally developed patina and good overall metal quality.

Condition
Age-related cracks and minor losses to the drapery. Overall, the bronze retains a fine patina and good presence.
