Rare Standing Bronze Buddha
Style
Phitsanulok Sukhothai School. The Buddha stands in double Abhaya Mudra, with both hands raised in the gesture of fearlessness, protection and reassurance. The elegant proportions, refined facial features and flame-topped ushnisha are characteristic of the sophisticated Sukhothai aesthetic that strongly influenced the Phitsanulok workshops. The warm, aged patina reflects centuries of devotional use.
Period
15th–16th Century, Thailand. The sculpture belongs to the Phitsanulok tradition, rooted in the artistic vocabulary of the Sukhothai period. The Buddha also preserves evidence of later restoration, probably undertaken during the early Rattanakosin period (late 18th–19th century), demonstrating the continued religious importance of the image.
Material
Cast bronze with a warm, naturally aged patina. Traces of original Rattanakosin lacquer remain visible on areas of later restoration.

Provenance
German private collection.
Condition
Fine old restorations, likely dating to the early Rattanakosin period. Traces of original Rattanakosin lacquer are preserved on the restored areas. The restoration history is consistent with the statue's long-standing use as a sacred devotional image.
