This serene figure stands in double Abhaya Mudra — both hands raised in the gesture of fearlessness, protection, and reassurance, a powerful and less common configuration that amplifies the sense of divine guardianship emanating from the piece.
The elegant proportions, gentle facial features, and flame-topped ushnisha are hallmarks of the refined Sukhothai aesthetic that influenced Phitsanulok workshops. The warm, aged patina speaks to centuries of quiet reverence.
What makes this piece particularly fascinating is its documented history of continuous veneration. The Buddha bears fine, old restoration work likely carried out during the early Rattanakosin period (late 18th–19th century), attesting to its sacred importance — it was deemed worthy of careful repair so it could continue serving in temple worship. Traces of original Rattanakosin lacquer remain visible on the restored areas, offering tangible evidence of this later chapter in the statue's life and adding rich layers of historical provenance.
