Antique Crowned Burmese Buddha
Style
Burmese Buddhist art depicting the Buddha crowned and adorned in royal attire. The combination of the crown, royal jewellery and Buddhist iconography reflects the distinctive syncretic aesthetic of the Nyaung Yan period, in which sacred imagery was combined with expressions of royal authority and spiritual sovereignty.

17th Century, Ava Kingdom, Nyaung Yan Dynasty, Burma (Myanmar). Following the decline and fragmentation of the earlier Ava Kingdom, the Nyaung Yan dynasty revived political stability in Upper Myanmar during the late 16th and 17th centuries, fostering an important period of artistic production.
