Antique Ava Bronze Buddha
Style
Ava-period Burmese Buddhist sculpture depicting the Buddha seated in Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture symbolising the moment of enlightenment. The figure is elevated on a high throne, giving the image a commanding presence and reflecting the formal devotional aesthetic of late Ava sculpture.
Period
18th Century, Ava Period, Late Nyaung Yan Dynasty, Burma (Myanmar). The sculpture belongs to the later Nyaung Yan tradition, during a period when established Ava artistic conventions continued to flourish before the rise of the Konbaung dynasty.
