Sculpture in the round in slipped terracotta representing the head of a hindu god or a bodhisattva, probably the sun god "Surya". The face is serene, the eyes half-closed. The head is surmounted by a high crown
with floral decorations, and heavy earrings are visible, partly covered with long, wavy hair. At the back, a large mandorla represents the power of solar radiation. Mounted on a base.
Eastern India or Bangladesh - Gupta Culture Period (320 - 550) - 4th/5th Century - Visible losses and restoration of the mandorla. A thermoluminescence test from the QED laboratory accompanies the piece
and authenticates its dating.
