88 - Group of burmese wooden figure Burma

Very nice set of three Burmese "Nat" (spirits) statues in lacquered wood and remains of gilding. They are standing in a walking position, wearing a bun worn on the side and dressed in a loincloth typical of the region. Their legs bear ritual tattoos. The support is a square base in red and lacquered. Very good state. The Nats are spirits venerated in Burma (Union of Myanmar) since very ancient times, in parallel with Buddhism. They are divided between 37 Grand Nats and all the others (deities of the waters, of the trees, of the hearth, etc.). Most of the 37 Grand Nats are human beings who have met a violent death (sein-thei, literally "green death"). They are of two types: The lower nats are Devas of the six lower heavens, the higher nats proceed from the six upper realms. Much like Saints in Christianity, nats can achieve this state for a variety of reasons. Origin: Burma / Myanmar Period: Around 1900 Dimensions: Heights: 86 - 78 - 71 cm
