Sculpture in the round of a standing Avalokiteshvara, serene face, half-closed eyes, dressed in a doti, Dong DU'ONG style

Sculpture in the round representing the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, identifiable because at the center of the headdress is the dhyāni-buddha Amitäbha. He is standing in a hieratic position, his face serene, his eyes halfopen, dressed in a decorated skirt in a style reminiscent of the Dong Du'o'ng style, a period marked by Buddhist art.He could hold in her right hand either a lotus bud or the mani or ratna, the jewel sometimes, though very rarely, associated with Avalokiteshvara.
Dating 9th Century - C. 890
Provenance Former Belgian collection - Nguyen Thi Loc Nul, piece collected by the current owner's grandfather in Indochina between 1950 and 1970.A similar piece was exhibited at the Guimet Museum during the exhibition "Art Treasures of Vietnam, Champa Sculpture"
