The traditional classification of early Sukhothai Buddhas is not as straightforward as it may seem. Taking a closer look at Wat Tra Kuan and the archaeological evidence, this article questions the conventional use of the term “Tra Kuan Buddha” and examines what it can really tell us about the origins of Sukhothai sculpture.
