Polychrome Taoist master holding a bowl of lustral water in his left hand and performing the Tarjani mudra in his right hand: a mudra typical of terrible forms.At the back, the cavity is decorated with a long message, 61 cm long and 6 cm wide. And an offering of dried insects and mica. According to the message, the statue is dated to the 20th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu, i.e., 1895 (indicated on the base of the statue). The statue represents a Taoist master from the nome of Liu Kuan Fa. The message was written by... to protect his family from evil spirits.The message was written by a person living in Xinghua Township, Bao Qing City, Hunnan Province. A large part of the message is illegible: it contains sacred formulas intended to combat evil spirits.
