106 - Rare Pyu white alloy Buddha 7-11th century Burma

This is a rare Pyu white alloy Buddha statue from Burma (Myanmar), dating from the 7th to the 11th century (Pyu period or early Bagan kingdom). The sculpture, which stands at 15 cm high, is a significant example of early Buddhist art from the region.
The Buddha is depicted seated in the Bhumisparsha mudra ("earth-touching" gesture), symbolizing his enlightenment. Unusually, he also holds an alms bowl in his lap, a combination of attributes that reflects his dual role as an enlightened being and a mendicant. The face has a serene, meditative expression, with downcast eyes and a subtle smile. The hair is rendered in tight, spiral curls, culminating in a pointed ushnisha (cranial protuberance).
The figure is crafted from a "white alloy," which gives it a distinct, light-colored patina. An "old copper restoration" is noted, which adds to the piece's history and character. The sculpture's detailed craftsmanship and unique iconography make it a remarkable and historically important artifact.
