1500-3000 €

This 17th-century Burmese statue features the Buddha crowned and adorned in royal attire, from the Ava Kingdom during the Nyaung Yan dynasty. Crafted from wood and standing 62 cm tall without its stand.
The Ava Kingdom was a dominant power in upper Myanmar from the 14th to the 16th centuries. After a period of decline and fragmentation, the Nyaung Yan dynasty revitalized the kingdom in the late 16th century, leading to an era of stability and artistic flourishing.
This statue showcases the syncretic art of the Nyaung Yan period. The crown and royal jewelry symbolize his supreme authority and enlightened state, blending religious iconography with royal grandeur. The use of wood as a medium for such a significant piece further highlights the craftsmanship and material culture of the time.
